The wide variety of existing developmenta1 theories are organized along two dimensions; "goal-directed vs. nondirected" (qualitative vs. quantitative) and “stadial vs. nonstadial" (continuity vs. noncontinuity) changes. According to this kind of classification, five major approaches in developmental researches in psychology today are distinguished. In this context, the main theoretical and methodological differences in developmental psychology are described. Looking for synthesis between distinguished approaches, the later consideration are focused on the concept of “change" and “time", which are treated as a two key terms in theory of development. In the end, the role of asynchrony in development is discussed.en_US
