dc.description.abstract | In principle, the author of this article presents the spatial and demographical development
of Bydgoszcz, formulated upon historical speculations (1950–1989), as well as the future outlook for Bydgoszcz’s centre forming itself in the post-communistic period. As far as the historical take on the subject is concerned, the main factor that determined the spatial and demographical structure of the city was the industrialization, whereas, after 1989, in the period largely deprived of the political element, they were influenced by workings of the free-market economy and deindustrialization, which gave the basis for the development of economic space (trade and consumption). The aforementioned factors legitimized the modern image of Bydgoszcz, bringing about occurrences that were both positive and negative for the functioning of the urban organism, which has been indicated in the text. The work also includes material concerning the city’s basic statistical forecast for the next 25 years, which is an attempt at answering the question about the future of Bydgoszcz’s centre in spatial and demographical dimensions. In order to authenticate the work’s accuracy, it has been based on statistical comparisons, documentation created by municipal administration, local newspapers and the Internet, complementing the content with graphics in the form of charts and diagrams. | en_US |
