The purpose of the undertaken considerations is an attempt to answer the question whether the loss of dexterity constitutes an obstacle in reaching one’s own identity and carrying out developmental tasks or is a factor that moderates the process of identity formation. Taking into consideration the fact that occurrence of dysfunction affects in a specific way psychosocial functioning of an individual, one should ask what should be done in order to prevent disability from becoming a factor that hinders development of an individual. On the basis of E.H. Erikson’s concept as well as grasping the sense of living by K. Obuchowski, it may be assumed that people of different identity statuses differ from one another in respect of psychosocial functioning, approach to life and giving it some specific meaning. Therefore, it seems to be justified to connect the issue of experiencing disability with searching one’s own identity by disabled persons.en_US
