Poglądy młodzieży akademickiej na rodzicielstwo

Abstract

The article deals with issues related to children in the context of socio-economic changes. It emphasizes that the transformation of the modern family (mainly with regard to the procreative function, expressing emotions and the sphere of axiology) does not always have a positive influence on the child. Although research studies that have been conducted among Poles still indicate that the family is one of the most important values and family happiness is necessary for a successful life, it can be seen that marriage is increasingly becoming a short-lived, unstable and weak institution that often ends in divorce, as a result of which the child suffers. Increasingly, the child is becoming the subject of “emotional consumption” and has to be of “high quality”. The article also discusses the issue of dispersed families and “street children”. This article presents a survey which was conducted among students in Bydgoszcz concerning their views on children and procreation as well as the reasons why people decide not to have a child, the preferred (appropriate) time for having a child and the reasons for making a decision about becoming parents.
