Abstract

The paper presents the results of the study on the perception of life quality in the groups of unemployed living in Bydgoszcz (a city with the unemployment rate equal 8,4%) and living in the country area round Nakło (with the unemployment rate equal 24.1 %). The comparison covered the following indicators of life quality perception: satisfaction with life, sense of freedom and effectiveness, satisfaction with various spheres of life and the hierarchy of their importance. In comparison with the unemployed living in the country those in the city obtained higher averages in the assessment of life prospects in 5 years time and life passion while their depression level appeared to be lower. The unemployed living in the country, on the other hand, perceived themselves as a more effective and they appreciate their life achievements and work more than those who live in the city. The remaining indicators do not differentiate the juxtaposed groups.
