Abstract

The author is interested in the experience of flood in the context of other life events. 9 women were clinically assessed in an interview study. The results show that the degree of experience most of all depends on their material losses and their interpretation of the event against the background of their earlier experiences of stressful events. The degree also depends on their empathic sensitivity. their sense of control over their environment, and the feeling of helplessness. The pattern of response to the experience of flood is given. It may have its psycho preventive value concerning women.
