Abstract

Among the important tasks of adulthood there are: building relatively stable intimate relationship with the partner, procreation and bringing up the child / children and professional development. On the basis of current knowledge the role of psychological attachment in child’s development is widely accepted. However, still little is known about its importance for the developmental changes in adulthood, although the modem approach to the issue of individual adult development emphasizes the importance of attachment to another grown person. Given the lack of research into the phenomenon of adult attachment considering their individual development, also from the perspective of developmental tasks, authors attempt to explore this area focusing on recognizing its importance for the o f social competence of partners. This article discusses the results of research on couples attachment and their social competence in early and middle adulthood. The study was conducted on 140 men and women aged from 20 to 55 years. All of them were formal or informal heterosexual couples. The study was based on Attachment Styles Questionnaire by M. Plopy (2005b) and the Social Skills Questionnaire by A. Matczak (2001). Research results have provided the basis for the conclusion that the recognized relationship is under the influence of developmental changes.
