Abstract

An attempt was made to propose a model of functioning of a family with disa­bled child, irrespective of the type of disability. The starting point was analysis of the family system, identification of com­ m on features and features characteristic of families with disabled children of dif­ferent types of disability Two models are compared, that of a family with a heal­thy child and that of a family with a disabled child. Six dimensions essential for the functioning of a family system have been identified: subjectivity, emotionalities, plasticity, stability, perception of systemic relations and interpersonal communication. These dimensions have been analy­sed in the model of a family with a healthy child and that of a family with a di­ sabled child in order to discern the qualitative differences in the functioning of families with a healthy and a disabled child. The question considered is the possibility of achievement of a qualitatively new equilibrium in the family system whose state of balance has been disturbed by the child disability.
