Funkcjonowanie struktur biurokratycznych gmin żydowskich centralnej i zachodniej Polski w latach 1918-1939

Abstract

An article aims at filling in scarcity of knowledge in the sphere of functioning of bureaucratic structures of Jewish communities. An author divides the article into several parts pointing out factors, which influenced activities of communities, namely demographic factors, legal norms sanctioning functioning of communities, economic factors and political determinants. He draws conclusions which are formulated basing on analysis of archival documentation. Characteristic feature of this documentation is an observation that Jewish communities functioning in central and western Poland, in spite of unification of legal norms, preserved dissimilarities coming from the period of the Partitions of Poland in many aspects of their activity.
