Streszczenie
The aim of this article is to present the scale, territorial distribution and the reasons for voter abstention recorded in the 2002 local government elections in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. It begins with an introduction of the historical outline of local government elections in Poland and the course of activities connected with the preparing and staging of such kind of election in 2002. Next it presents the number and distribution of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship’s citizens eligible to vote in the elections and their abstention individually for each local governing body elected, at the same time comparing these figures with general data recorded in Poland and other voivodeships. Finally, it indicates the factors that influenced the rate of voter abstention in 2002 local government elections in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship as well as Poland.
