Abstract

The cultural landscape of the rural areas reflects the man nature relation. Natural and anthropogenic elements coexist harmonically within this landscape. The sacred elements, important for the faith of inhabitants, like sacred places, temples, cemeteries and chapels belong to the anthropogenic elements. The intention of this paper is to present the process of the fulfillment of the rural areas by sacred elements as well as determine the role of such elements in shaping the cultural landscape of Dąbrowa Chełmińska commune. Besides, the authors analyzed the functions and sense of the sacrum sphere in the contemporary landscape of the examined area. The choice of the territory of research is connected with long lasting settlement processes (over 3 thousands years). In effect, this area was penetrated by various cultures, religion streams, which have created the specific cultural landscape.
