Między ornamentacją a interpretacją. Moda wobec tekstów kultury

Abstract

The focus here is on fashion as the forum for dialogue with other cultural texts. Today, fashion is increasingly inserted into relations with communica tions other than semiotic ones, which is facilitated by blurred lines between arts. The trend towards intersemiotic and intertextual references is continuing, takes different forms and reveals cultural phenomena which are broader and more complex than an outfit - aesthetic fascinations and axiology of culture. Observation of such relations is enabled by poetics and rhetoric because the said communications, although different, are understood as texts. Stylistic procedures are the key problem of these relations. Attention was focused on historically-accurate styling in the designs ofRei Kawakubo, Dolce & Gabba na and Karl Lagerfeld where references consisting ofthe movement ofsacred elements to the area ofthe profane and contamination with exotic styling are observed. The analysed outfits attest that fashion interprets culture and, at the same time, constitutes a track of changes it underwent.
