Abstract

Bydgoszcz has always been called a green city. Over the centuries the authorities and inhabitants have been able to create the system of parks, gardens and other separated green areas, which on the one hand contributes to organising a public space, on the other hand testifies the imagination and competences ofits designers. The article invokes the most representative episodes from the history of green Bydgoszcz, concentrating primarily on twentieth-century solutions, which effects might be admired to this very day by both citizens and visitors of Bydgoszcz, and also discusses and contextualise the nomenclature of streets relating to the nature of Bydgoszcz, specifically the urbonyms deriving from the vegetable vocabulary.
