Abstract

The article explains the notion of fairy tales and novels and characterises the magic realism ofCh. Andersen. It pictures the European cities in the writer’s texts taking into account six criteria: the authentic buildings and the places in the described cities, the houses and the streets, the sounds in the city descriptions, the colours, lighting, science and technology. The article shows the way ofjoining the realistic and magic motifs used by the author in picturing the cities and thanks to them the literary and painting effects gained.
