Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the question of politeness in the greeting forms in the chat communication, based on the Polish and the German chat. The analysis ofone hundred conversation openings in the Polish chat and another one hundred in the German one does not exhibit the uniqueness of the Polish politeness, which is frequently addressed in the Polish studies of politeness. According to this fact, the appearance of the chat platforms may be perceived as the beginning of a chapter in the history of Polish politeness. Even though it has not significantly altered the rules of politeness in all the communicative situations, it has undoubtedly introduced an entirely new standard of Polish politeness, which can no longer be overseen.
