Abstract

Scholars, analyzing Halina Poswiatowska's writings, strongly emphasized the experience of sensuality in a boundary situation, exposed senses, their intensity, their role in the process of self-cognition, the Other, surroundings, manifesting self-thematic issues. The article elaborates on the American texts of the poet (autobiographical prose, poetry, correspondence to her family and friends) and focuses on building relationships with a metropolis, showing their role in the process of shaping the identity. It proves the author's interest in architectural diversity of the city, fascination, delight in its horizontal and vertical extent and also the feeling of despondence, longing and a desire for distance. It also emphasizes that literary representations of space, especially in New York, concretize the launching of the process of biography creation and adapt to multifaceted realization of the maladie discourse.
