A book can be considered as the first European printed monograph of life and works of Naṣr Abū Zayd (1943-2010) - one of the most important contemporary Islamic thinkers. The monograph, consisting of an introduction, seven chapters, conclusions and bibliography, is a synthetic discussion of all the crucial aspects of the Egyptian intellectual's thought, with a focus on his innovative semiotic-hermeneutical approach, and, often dramatic, biography. Usage of the earlier unpublished interviews, made by the author and his research team with Abū Zayd and people close to him, adds another layer to this monograph and coincides with the methods of contemporary anthropology and social studies.en_US
