Introduction. Foot defects in children are becoming more common phenomenon and they are a serious medico – social problem. The development of foot defects may contribute to the lack of knowledge and awareness of parents about the prevention of body posture.
Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to analyze of foot defects in children aged 6-10 years and to assess the knowledge and awareness of parents about the defects in the foot.
Materials and methods. The study was conducted on a group of 80 children (45 girls and 35 boys) aged 6-10 years. The study included an evaluation of static foot using podoscope. In addition, performed an assessment of knowledge and awareness of parents about the foot defects using a proprietary questionnaire. The study was conducted in the Primary School No. 3. Soldiers of the Polish Military Organization in Belchatow.
Results. In 20 children was observed flat feet, wherein the angle Clarke ranged from x-30 ° (SD 6.2). Pes cavus occurred in 22 children, and Clarke angle value in this group was greater than 55 ° (SD 5.2). Feet correct - angle of 42 ° -54 Clarke ° (SD 3.94) was observed in 38 children. Parents in most know the rules preventing defects in the foot, but not all of them into practice.
Conclusion. 1. In the study group 48% of children have normal feet, flat feet 25% and 28% pes cavus. 2. Foot defects are a common phenomenon especially in children, and there is a great need to increase knowledge and awareness in this regard among parents and caregivers.
