Przestrzenne metafory pamiętania i zapominania w poezji Zbigniewa Herberta

Abstract

In Herbert’s poetic writings plenty of issues being discussed are accompanied by a mnemonic issue. A significant part, in its defining, play metaphors. In the article figures, which motivate spatial associations, are analyzed. They emphasize the problem of remembering and forgetting – a desire to keep them safe as well as a complexity of contemporaneous recording and decline. Their concretization builds basic ideas of Herbert’s poetry, such as a sense of obligation towards the past, stabilization of identity, special emphasis referring to the importance of memory, its fragility and infirmity. Metaphorically suggested mechanisms and principles of the memory, their numerous poetic recordings are necessary to shape consciously the sensitivity to memories, in order to seek the balance in repetition and constantly undertake an effort to make the use of something that is still remembered.
