dc.description.abstract The aim of the paper is to analyze comprehensively the functioning of capital punishment in the legal systems of Central Asian states in the context of international human rights law, as well as in the context of the relevant treaty bodies’ decisions related to selected cases. The article analyzes the practices of state authorities regarding the circumstances of applying the death penalty (restrictions, procedural safeguards, opportunities of applying for pardon, etc.). The legal analysis is supplemented with a presentation of the political context and specific socio-cultural characteristics of Central Asian countries. en_US
