Streszczenie
The ideology and practice of the New Left came into existence in the 1960s as a protest against the reality ofthe then capitalism, and against the Russian style of „real socialism". It was also a protest of young 19З Artur Laska generations against the reality oítheïrfathers'.The author ofthe article presents the origins of the protest, directions, and ways of changes proposed by the ideologists ofthis new political movement. The advocates of this doctrine pointed at the false understanding of the notion development of individuals and communities. They did not agree to identify development with the possibility of unlimited production and consumption. They did not accept the world of hypocrisy that is ruled by the economic account. They rejected unlimited needs of using the technique to make life easier and more pleasant. They emphasized the qualitative development of a man and his creative possibilities. Being better meant being more loving, more sensitive in the relations with people. Their assumptions were to lead to create a new, truly human civilization with a human being in the centre, who differed from a man created by the industrial civilization. According to the author the idealistic motives of the protest were marked by arrogance, megalomania, and the desire to humiliate middle-class authorities.
