is implemented on different school levels, the professional music institutions are operating
and young composers affiliated in Polish Composers Association Department are very
active. In this article, the author focuses on selected works of older generation of
composers from Bydgoszcz: Konrad Pałubicki, Ryszard Kwiatkowski and Bohdan Riemer.
All three artists apart from the regular composing activities were involved also in
educational work. they often used their educational experiences in piano works. In the
artistic output of these composers we can find the works which can be performed by
students of 2nd level of music schools. they contain a lot of themes which introduce
the young musicians in the area of modern music, the themes which prepare them for
performing the classical music of 20th and 19th century.
three works of the above-mentioned composers are the subject of the article:
Chimera by K. Pałubicki, Seven photographs from the Moon by R. Kwiatkowski and
Resonating Mirror by B. Riemer. the author presents her case study according to the
following plan: at the beginning we can find the short biographies of the composers and
their piano artistic output. Afterwards the author presents three compositions and focuses
among others on showing their formal structure, sound material or method of using
the piano. In the next part of the article we find the analysis of educational values and
performance aspects related to them.
these subjects are presented by analysing the following aspects: rhythm, melodic,
harmonics, agogics, articulation and dynamics. In the conclusion, the author states that
the compositions which were the subject of the analysis contain new music qualities
characteristic for the music of 20th century. they allow us to learn the new sound language
or new harmonic solutions different from the rules existing in the tonal harmony. the
educational values contained in these compositions allow the young pianists to expand
their skills and apply new performance methods.
