The article presents the empirical research results on social distance of youth to selected social, ethnic and national groups and it also diagnosis the possible personal-authoritarian trends in the perception of contemporary reality. The main objective of the analysis of the collected empirical material is to identify the level of acceptance of selected groups in the contemporary conflicts and socio-political crises, which are a threat to major values in mature democratic societies, such as tolerance and openness to different cultures, religious, traditions, appearance, beliefs or views. The results indicate that secondary school students shows the highest social distance towards the groups most peripheral culturally and ethnically, and the lowest to the nearest cultural and ethnic groups, and that this gap is reduced in direct confrontation own beliefs about other cultures with the knowledge passed during the workshop in the field of cultural education.
