Abstract

The article presents the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and US support for the Afghan mujahideen in the perspective of Mike Nichols' movie „Charlie Wilson's War". The actions of the title Charles Wilson, the Republican congressman from the state ofTexas, in support of the Afghan mujahideen, are shown in a broader context of causes, course and consequences of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. In the article are also analyzed the thoughts of director about democracy and the crisis ofWestern values
