Między upośledzeniem umysłowym a niepełnosprawnością intelektualną - dylematy terminologiczne

Abstract

The article refers to terminological dilemmas of using different names connected to mental retardation. The main question concerns the theoretical and practical differences between Polish words upośledzenie i niepełnosprawność, in relation to English words disability and handicap. In the Polish language the difference is not that clear and obvious, and it is not only the problem of translation- rather semantic one. Because it is a new trend in Polish special pedagogy to use the term we need to pinpoint it. The author shows the place of the discussed controversial terms in a multi-dimensional model of disability.
