<title>Relationships with Siblings as a Way of Coping with Stress in the Early Adult Hood and the Level of Self-Esteem</title>

<description>Relationships with Siblings as a Way of Coping with Stress in the Early Adult Hood and the Level of Self-Esteem
Walęcka-Matyja, Katarzyna
The aim of this study was to determine the psychological image of sibling relationships in adulthood, as well as to answer the question of whether and how sibling relationships in early adulthood are associated with the strategies for coping with stress and the level of self-esteem. The study included 62 persons in early adulthood (average age 30.2 years). The following tools were used: the Adult Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (ASRQ) by Stocker, Lanthier and Furman (1995) in the adaptation of Walęcka-Matyja (2014), the Multidimensional Coping Inventory to Assess the Ways in Which People Respond to Stress (COPE) by Carver, Scheier and Weintraub in the adaptation of Juczyński and Ogińska-Bulik (2009) and the Self-Esteem Scale (SES) by Rosenberg (1965) in the adaptation of Łaguna, Lachowicz-Tabaczek, Dzwonkowska (2007). The results of the study demonstrated the existence of correlations (especially numerous in the group of sisters), diverse in the direction and strength, between the&#13;
adult sibling relationship dimensions and the strategies of coping with stress. The hypothesis that there is a positive correlation between the level of self-esteem and similarity and closeness in the group of sisters was proved to be true. A negative&#13;
correlation between the level of self-esteem and a relationship characterized by domination was noted in the group of brothers.

<description>Pojęcie ‘partner życiowy’ w percepcji młodych dorosłych żyjących w pojedynkę i w związku nieformalnym
Adamczyk, Katarzyna
The present qualitative study explored the meaning of the term ‘a lifetime partner’ among single and partnered young adults, as well as between women and men. Three hundred and eighty six young adults (277 women and 109 men) aged 19-33 years old were asked to complete the following unfinished sentence “Lifetime partner means to me…” The results of qualitative and quantitative analysis&#13;
showed that young adults perceived a lifetime partner as: (1) an important or the most important person to an individual; (2) a person who gives the feeling of safety, supports and who is reliable and is understanding; (3) a person who loves and who is loved, who cares and who is cared of, and who is trustworthy; (4) a person with whom you can form or you are planning to form a long-term relationship/&#13;
marriage and have or not to have children. The analysis also revealed that, in general, single and partnered young adults, as well as women and men, in a similar way understood the term ‘a lifetime partner’.

<description>Znaczenie zależności interpersonalnej dla jakości bliskich relacji w dorosłości
Suwalska-Barancewicz, Dorota
The interest in the significance of dependency for various dimensions of human functioning is an aspect that requires particular attention especially due to the fact that up to the present day it has remained as not fully defined and solved. The recognition of the role of dependency could be of great value for the compilation of intervention programmes for couple therapy and at the same time&#13;
contribute to the improvement of the quality of functioning of a dyad. Dependence formed in the earliest years of life as a result of contact with loved ones natural guardians, innate part of human nature (Bornstein, 1992). Acquired in the course of later experiences with others may take the form of pathology and dysfunction disrupting relationships, but also be a manifestation of the proper functioning of a dyad (Bornstein, Languirand, 2003). This paper presents the concept and dependencies in the psychological literature (both adaptive and maladaptive). Special attention was paid to the importance of a healthy dependency for human functioning and its role in shaping the intimate relationships.

<description>Funkcjonowanie psychologiczne rozwodzących się rodziców a ich postawy rodzicielskie
Błażek, Magdalena
The article is focused on psychological functioning of divorcing parents and their parental attitudes. Sex differences were also analyzed. Psychological functioning was assess by previously introduced measure (Błażek et al., 2012). Parental Attitudes Scale by Plopa (2008) and Questionnaire of Parental Attitudes by Ziemska (1982) were used to assess parental attitudes. 180 divorcing parents&#13;
participated in the study (90 married couples). The results of the study show that there are sex differences concerning psychological features such as loneliness and parental attitudes such as dominating the child, parental helplessness and concentration on a child. Better educated parents presented more positive psychological and parental functioning during divorce process. Dimensions of parental attitudes were also associated with measured features of psychological functioning in the groups of mothers and fathers. The results lead to the conclusion that divorcing parents reveal psychological problems associated with lower quality parenting.
